10 Ways to Celebrate V-Day Downtown

Date: Feb 11, 2016

Love songs on the radio, romantic comedies on the television, and sold-out flower shops across the city can mean only one thing: Valentine’s Day has hit the Lehigh Valley!  Not to brag, but here in the Hamilton District, we know a thing or two about romance, and this year, businesses all over Allentown are spreading the love with special events and deals throughout the weekend. No matter what you’re looking for, we’ve got great ways to make a date with Downtown, now all we need is you!

1. Cozy Up with Comfort Food at grain.

Nothing says “romance” like an intimate meal for two, and what better place to treat your Valentine (or yourself) than with decadent, elevated classics at Grain? Reservations are filling up fast, but if the thought of wooing your sweetie over a plate of chicken and waffles can’t inspire you to pick up the phone, nothing will.

2. Say it with Sparkle at Sage

When words fail, carefully-chosen jewelry speaks volumes, and Sage has no shortage of stunning pieces this Valentine’s Day.  With an array of brands like Alex + Ani on the shelves, we bet she’ll be “hooked” on you this holiday.

3. Double-Date Downtown at ROAR Social House

Want to share the love this weekend?  When you make reservations with another couple this Sunday, you’ll receive $10 off bottomless bubbly with your dinner! Spreading the cheer has never been easier!

4. Go Au Natural at Garden Gate Foods

If you find yourself knee-deep in chocolate wrappers and empty wine bottles come Sunday, it may be time for a V-Day detox.  Luckily, Garden Gate Foods has a huge assortment of healthy, organic fare to bring the spring back into your step.  Plus, if you’re lucky, you could win a basket of freebies with your purchase. To celebrate their 28th year in downtown, owners Richard and Sally are giving away a gift basket to one customer each day this month!

5. Relish a Rare Evening at Billy’s Downtown Diner

We all know Billy’s is the brunch destination on Hamilton Street, but for this weekend only, Billy and the gang will be offering up a dinner menu, available by reservation only.  Your beau will be beyond impressed by the once-in-a-lifetime date, and don’t worry, bacon still features heavily in the dishes offered.

6. Show Your Sweet Side at Luna’s Bakery

If the way to your beau’s heart is through their stomach, just imagine how much they’ll love a heart-shaped dessert!  Baked with lots of love, the cakes offered at Luna’s this weekend are guaranteed to seduce your Valentine into a sugar-coma.

7. Get a Symphony Serenade

On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, the Miller Symphony Hall presents an evening of “Puccini’s Greatest Hits”!  You don’t have to be an opera aficianado to fall in love with these cherished standards of the stage. Plus, young lovers rejoice, because patrons under 21 can attend the concert absolutely free!

8. Brew Up Some Romance at Cork & Cage

Though Valentine’s Day is usually the domain of fine wines and pink cocktails, downtown distributor Cork & Cage provides a hoppy alternative to traditional libations.  With 20% off big bottles all February, why not pour up some Chocolate Stout Sunday night?

9. Wine and Dine in Style at Centro

When it comes to romantic, candlelit dinners, ordering the perfect dish can make or break the date.  Luckily, Centro has an Amoré Prix Fixe deal available this weekend, featuring a masterfully-curated menu, with optional wine pairings to make sure your meal is a match made in heaven.

10. Craft a Little Love at the Art Museum

Though sometimes it can seem like Valentine’s Day is an adults-only affair, the Allentown Art Museum gives kids a chance to spread some love this year with hands-on crafts and events this Sunday!  Not only can you accompany little ones as they embrace their creative side, but admission to the museum is absolutely free from noon until four.

*And of course, you can do it all with your AMP gift card available for purchase at the Allentown Art Museum, assembly88 and our Chamber office located at the Butz Corporate Center. More information.
