Fall Internship: Help us Promote Downtown Allentown

Overview:

The Hamilton District Main Street Program (HDMSP) is an initiative of the Allentown Chamber of Commerce specifically focusing on the area from 5th Street to 12th Street and Walnut, Hamilton and Linden. The HDMSP is an urban revitalization program designed to redevelop and draw interest to the Central Business District of Allentown. We focus on a variety of tasks that promote downtown Allentown as an exciting place to live, work and play. We market downtown through social media and our website – downtownallentown.com and we promote and participate in the planning and execution of our signature events such as Blues, Brews and Barbecue, Summer in the City, First Monday, Downtown Restaurant Weeks, etc.

The HDMSP is representative of local businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals seeking to stimulate economic activity and enhance the quality of life for business owners, community groups and associations, employees, visitors and residents within the Hamilton District. It is the Program’s mission to create, maintain and expand an environment conducive to the revitalization of the District.

The HDMSP emphasizes the Four-Point Approach™, which can be found at http://www.padowntown.org/programs-services/main-street. This ideology includes five committees: Business Development, Design, Marketing, Organizational Development and Safe, Clean & Green.

Main Events:

  • Blues, Brews and Barbecue – 2nd Saturday in June
  • Summer in the City music series – Thursdays at lunch, end of May through end of September
  • Allentown Beer Festival – late fall
  • First Monday – the first Monday of every month in a variety of locations
  • Downtown Restaurant Week – March and November
  • Christmas Tree Lighting Event
  • New Year’s Eve Event

 

Ideal Skills Needed:

Marketing background with social media focus
Upbeat, friendly personality
Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment while staying flexible

 

Responsibilities:

Aid in planning and executing special events and community projects to further the growth and development of Downtown Allentown.
Assist in the management of social media and website content on an ongoing basis
Attend meetings for HDMSP Board and Committees.
Provide assistance to Allentown Chamber staff.
Basic office duties, including photocopying, taking meeting minutes, processing AMP (Allentown Merchant Program) gift cards, etc.
Other duties as assigned.

 

Time Commitment: The intern will report to Miriam Huertas, Sr. Vice President for Allentown Initiatives and Elizabeth Regan, Marketing Coordinator for Allentown Initiatives. Flexible schedule, approximately 15-20 hours per week, however longer hours may be required for special events. May be asked to attend events in the evenings.
