Hamilton and 6 other historical Washington and British VIPs you had no idea were queer
Alexander Hamilton is all the rage today, but his love letters to another man have been skipped over by the writers of the Broadway play. Which pronoun heavy nursery rhyme you know by heart was named for a real life woman scientist who might well have been a Lesbian? There’s the Lady with a Lamp who changed healthcare forever; and the handsome Gay professor of color whose scientific experiments have influenced the lunches of children every day, and the Gay government worker who was the US’s Poet Laureate in the 1860s. Then there’s the Queer US Presidents, and a member of the British Aristocracy who was Transgender and sued to be recognized as the rightful heir to a peerage in the 1950s. We’ll take a lavender gander at these surprising figures in US and British history that you already know, but have never learned  about from a Queer Perspective. And of course there will be fabulous snacks by Trish Sullivan!

Sit back, view slides, listen, learn about and discuss the lives and work of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer artists. Consider the LGBTQ imagery of mainstream artists in various periods of history. And after the class there is also a social opportunity with themed snacks, to discuss interesting things with old friends, or meet new ones in this exciting free 4 session class at the LGBT Community Center. This is a popular class attended by a diverse and intergenerational group of about 40-45 LGBTQA folks per class. It’s fun and funny – a good place to bring old friends, or meet new friends, or bring someone on a nice first date!
