Class 4 — Thursday, January 9, 2020
Gay Old Broadway
Can you name the Gay male actors who played Shakespeare on Broadway in the early 1900s? How about the brilliant woman actor and out Lesbian who played the gender-bending character Peter Pan, and her Gay male producer who made history by creating a theater circuit that reached nearly every state in the nation? And then there’s Mae West’s play DRAG, that was about exactly what you think it was about, and she went to jail for it! There have always been Queers in the Theater! You just never got to hear about them…until this class!!! Delicious snacks by Trish Sullivan will also be a big feature.
Sit back, view slides, listen, learn about and discuss the lives and work of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer artists. Consider the LGBTQ imagery of mainstream artists in various periods of history. And after the class there is also a social opportunity with themed snacks, to discuss interesting things with old friends, or meet new ones in this exciting free 4 session class at the LGBT Community Center. This is a popular class attended by a diverse and intergenerational group of about 40-45 LGBTQA folks per class. It’s fun and funny – a good place to bring old friends, or meet new friends, or bring someone on a nice first date!
Instructor: Liz Bradbury, MFA. For more information, email her at liz@bradburysullivancenter.org
