Pride Guides Exhibit

The Lehigh Valley LGBT Community Archive, a program of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in partnership with the Trexler Library at Muhlenberg College, is proud to present our FIRST exhibit of materials from the archive! Join us for Pride Guides and the Early Years of Lehigh Valley Pride Festivals on display in the Fine Art Galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center from January 3 through February 21, 2020 with a reception on January 29 from 6-8pm.

This exhibit provides images from the first eleven years of Lehigh Valley Pride and provides context about the needs, challenges, opportunities, and advocacy for the local LGBT community from 1994-2004. The exhibition of Lehigh Valley Pride Guides includes a timeline from 1994-2004 with a brief discussion of major themes addressed in each featured annual publication. While a unique aspect of each Guide is discussed on the timeline, the exhibit also traces common topics that appeared frequently in publications: politics, health, art, sponsorship, remembrance, and people.

The exhibit is curated by Mary Foltz, Malaïka Gutekunst, Mel Kitchen, Robin Lee, Maggie Tarmey, and Alysse Weinberg and the project was created with support from Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, Lehigh University’s Office of Creative Inquiry, Southside Initiative, and Pride Center, and Muhlenberg College’s Trexler Library.

The event is finished.
