Queer Poetry Reading Group: Bury It

he Library at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center invites the community to participate in the September discussion of the center’s Queer Poetry Reading Group, featuring Bury It by Sam Sax, winner of the 2017 James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. The collection begins with poems written in response to the spate of highly publicized young gay suicides in the summer of 2010. What follows are raw and expertly crafted meditations on death, rituals of passage, translation, desire, diaspora, and personhood. What’s at stake is survival itself and the archiving of a lived and lyric history.

This is a virtual event over zoom. Advance RSVP to sharon@bradburysullivancenter.org is required to receive the zoom link. Limited free copies of the book are available — request a copy with your RSVP. If you do not need a free copy, books can be purchased at this link, with 10% of your purchase supporting programs at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. The book is available in print format.

The discussion is facilitated by Jimmy Hamill and is supported in part by the Lehigh Valley Engaged Humanities Consortium, with generous support provided by a grant to Lafayette College from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The event is finished.
