The City is the Gallery!

Murals around corners, sculptures between buildings, landmarks hiding in plain sight. A walkable afternoon of discovery: part mural tour, part scavenger hunt, that drifts from coffee and galleries into live music and cocktails by night.

Who's this for

This experience is for people who like wandering without needing a rigid plan.

Art lovers. Casual explorers. Couples looking for something different. Visitors discovering the city for the first time. People who’d rather spend an afternoon walking through murals and galleries than sitting in another chain restaurant.

Some visitors come specifically for the public art. Others just want an interesting afternoon with good coffee and a few unexpected discoveries along the way.

Downtown works because the creative moments aren’t isolated to one building. They’re layered throughout the city itself.

You don’t really “arrive” at the experience. You move through it.

02

The Walk.

This experience is built to be explored slowly. Follow the murals. Stop when something catches your eye. Grab coffee. Duck into a gallery. Stay longer than you planned. The route is flexible. The discoveries are the point.

Start with Coffee!

Every good downtown wandering day starts the same way: park the car, grab coffee, and start walking.

The beauty of Downtown Allentown is that you’re never far from the next discovery. A mural leads to a sculpture. A sculpture leads to a gallery. A gallery leads to lunch. The whole day unfolds naturally.

  • Coffee

    The Cozy Crumbs Cafe

A quieter treat stop with neighborhood energy and enough sugar to power the walk back to the parking garage.

  • Coffee

    Nowhere Coffee Co

Strong coffee, relaxed atmosphere, and the kind of stop that gives parents a second wind while the kids grab a pastry or snack.

  • Coffee

    La Vida Café

Tucked beside the Art Alley near 6th Street, La Vida feels like the right starting point for a slow-moving creative day downtown.

Follow the Murals!

This is the signature experience.

More than 23 murals stretch throughout downtown, scattered across Hamilton Street, the ArtsWalk, Walnut Street, and The Path. Some dominate entire buildings. Others reveal themselves unexpectedly between alleyways and side streets.

The walk is flexible by design. You’re encouraged to wander, pause, double back, and notice things you almost missed.

  • Murals

    Artswalk Pocket Park

Wide sidewalks, public art, benches, music, and enough visual energy to keep the walk itself interesting.

  • Park

    Arts Park

Coffee in-hand while the kids move around nearby is the entire assignment sometimes. Open space, seating, events, and room to breathe without leaving downtown.

  • Murals

    The Spiral Deck Mural

A massive new mural stretching the full height of the Spiral Deck transforms an ordinary parking structure into one of downtown’s most striking visual landmarks.

  • Public Art

    The Leonardo Horse

The towering 24-foot horse sculpture at Arts Park feels both monumental and slightly surreal — exactly the kind of public art moment that defines downtown’s creative identity.

Hidden Creative Spaces!

Downtown’s personality lives in the smaller discoveries too.

Vintage shops. Artist spaces. Plant stores. Chalk walls. Tiny storefronts filled with strange and beautiful things.

The best approach is simply staying curious.

  • Art

    Art Haus Gallery

Gallery openings, artist talks, and rotating exhibits keep the space constantly evolving.

  • Vintage

    Room & Ward Vintage

Vintage finds and curated pieces tucked directly into the ArtsWalk corridor.

  • Shopping

    The Perfect Fit Thrift Shop

A little unexpected. A little chaotic. Exactly the kind of spot that makes downtown exploring more fun.

  • Sterner’s Stems

Plants, terrariums, succulents, and the ability to build your own miniature green world right in the middle of downtown.

History in Plain Sight!

Downtown Allentown doesn’t separate its history from the modern city. The stories are woven directly into the streetscape.

  • The Liberty Bell Hiding Spot

At 620 Hamilton Street, a replica Liberty Bell marks the location where the original Liberty Bell was hidden for nine months during the Revolutionary War to keep it from falling into British hands.

  • The Post Office Murals

Nearly 90-year-old murals inside the downtown Post Office remain one of the city’s most underrated artistic landmarks.

  • Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum

A deeper look into the region’s industrial, cultural, and immigrant history — all within walking distance of the mural corridor.

The Main Event!

The right centerpiece changes the entire day.

After hours of murals, galleries, coffee shops, and wandering downtown, this is where the experience slows down and becomes immersive. A museum visit. A live performance. A space that makes you stay longer than you planned.

  • Museum

    Allentown Art Museum

A surprisingly approachable stop for families. Creative programs, visual stimulation, and an easy indoor reset between higher-energy activities.

  • Symphony Hall

    Miller Symphony Hall

The room you dress up a little for. Lehigh Valley’s symphony lives here, and the bookings stretch well beyond classical — pop-ups, screenings, intimate billings.

  • Entertainment Venue

    Vault 634

Historic architecture, memorable events facility, candlelight concerts, and one of downtown’s most atmospheric venues.

Stash the car.

Park here, walk Hamilton, you're set. Plenty of decks, reasonable rates, and on-street meters fill in the gaps after 6pm and on Sundays.
